Election: 1 Dead, Traders Abandon Abuja Market As Party Supporters Clash

One person has been reportedly killed after supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari and PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, clashed on Wednesday in Dutse market, Abuja.

It was learnt that some Buhari loyalists had stormed the market in jubilation of the president’s reelection when they clashed with supporters of the PDP candidate.

The Buhari supporters also blocked the roads, causing heavy gridlock along Dutse axis.

Following the development, security agents arrived the area to contain the situation.

“They began to shoot into the air to disperse the crowd. The gunshot killed a man,” an eyewitness told THE WHISTLER.

The eyewitness also said the supporters resorted to burning of tyres as a way to celebrate the president’s victory.

A trader who also spoke to this medium said, “After Pandemonium broke out, we had to run away from the market and those who came shopping had to run for their lives.”

However, as at the time of filing this report, it was learnt that calm has been partially restored and market activities have resumed.
