An unidentified driver of a Delica bus with registration number AAH 523 ZV, Friday afternoon, had a lone ghastly accident at Ihiala, opposite Ken Maduako’s Filling Station.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the crash was due to brake failure and tyre bust, adding that the crash involved 18 persons on board, comprising five female adults, nine male adults and four female children.

SRC Edor Florence, sector public education officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, said two persons sustained varying degrees of injuries, and were taken to Our Lady’s of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala, for medical attention.

Meanwhile, motorists plying across the Enugwu Agidi axis, along Awka-Onitsha expressway in Anambra State, Friday, cried out over the heavy gridlock on the road. A driver, Mazi Okwumata Onah, said, “It is now very difficult to pass through that road. It is a nightmare to drive there because one can spend over two hours on one spot.”

As a result of the traffic difficulties on the road, the contractor handling the project was made to open up the finished lane to allow free-flow of traffic.

The gridlock was tensed on Friday , prompting the state sector commander, FRSC, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi, to deploy the sector head of operations, DCC Joseph Abuo, and his team to unlock the heavy bottlenecks.

Our correspondent reports that the gridlock is caused by the ongoing road construction around Amawbia overhead bridge.

Mr Kumapayi also assured the motoring public that the corps ‘is ever ready and committed toward a better motoring environment in Anambra State’, urging them to be patience.
