2018 W/Cup: FIFA Fines Nigeria $31,000 Over Pitch Invasion Ahead Of Zambia Clash

World soccer ruling body, FIFA, has fined the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) $31,000 (N11,049,557) for its fans’ breach of security during a 2018 World Cup qualifying match.

Nigeria failed to control her fans during the FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Cameroon at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in September 1. The game ended 4-0 in favour of the Super Eagles.

According to the information on the FIFA website on Monday, Nigeria violated article 65 and 67 of the FBC FIFA stadium and security regulations and as such charged for “improper conduct amongst spectators (pitch invasions by supporters and invasions of restricted areas by supporters other than the pitch)”.

A similar incident took place on March 29, 2016, when fans ran onto the pitch during the Super Eagles match against Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna.

Other countries fined for various offences according to the statement include Germany, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Chile, England, France and Guinea.

Nigeria leads Group B with 10 points from four matches and they will advance to next year’s Mundial if they beat Zambia in Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Saturday.

In the final match of the qualifying tournament for Russia 2018, Algeria welcomes the coach Gernot Rohr side to Constantine on November 6.
