2019: 79 Candidates To Contest Presidency – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday said that 79 political parties have submitted names of their Presidential candidate.

The chairman of the commission, Mahmood Yakubu, said this during a press briefing with journalists at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

Yakubu said only 79 out of the 89 political parties participating in the elections have Presidential candidates ahead of the 16th February bout. Nigeria currently has 91 registered political parties.

He also revealed that 1, 803 candidates would vie for the 109 seats in the Senate and 4, 548 would be vying for the 360 House of Representatives seats.

Yakubu added that the “submission of nominations for Governorship and State Assembly elections is ongoing until 2nd November 2018.”
