Acclaimed Benue Godfather, George Akume Defeated In Benue Senatorial Race

Senator George Akume of the All Progressives Congress has lost his bid to return to the Senate after he was defeated by Orker Jev of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to win the Benue North West Senatorial seat.

Sen. Akume is for former governor of Benue State between 1999-2007, and won the Benue North West senatorial seat in 2007, 2011, and 2015.

Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Nicodemus Ochai, made the announcement on Tuesday, February 26.

Mr. Jev who is also the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on FCT, polled 157, 726 to beat the APC leader in the state,  George Akume who polled 115,422.

The totally valid votes cast are 287, 028.
