Adamawa Defies FG Advice, Repatriates Almajiris Over Coronavirus

In a bid to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Adamawa State government says it has began the repatriation of Almajiri children to their various states.

The federal government had cautioned states, through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 not to spread the disease through repatriation of Almajiris.

The House of Reps had similarly passed a resolution on Tuesday, asking the federal government to stop states from deporting Almajiris to their states of origin.

A statement issued by the Adamawa State government on its facebook page on Wednesday, said the move was part of its response to the disease.

According to the statement, the first set of the children have been taken to Gombe State.

“Adamawa State Government begins the repatriation of Almajiris to their families in other States, as part of its response to COVID-19 pandemic. The first set have been taken to Gombe,” the short post on facebook reads.
