After Losing Presidential Bid, Saraki Goes For Senate

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has presented Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, as its senatorial candidate for Kwara Central in the 2019 elections.

Saraki’s name was among the list of candidates the PDP presented on Thursday to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for various elective positions in 2019.

Recall that the Senate President had lost at the recently held presidential primary election of the opposition party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, emerged winner.

There are indications that Saraki, who was appointed the Director-General of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organization on Tuesday, may be scheming to retain his seat as Senate President in the next administration.

Meanwhile, there have been calls by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Senate President to step down from the position following his defection recently from the APC to the opposition party.

The ruling party had argued that Mr Saraki lacked the moral justification to retain the seat as they believe he now belongs to the minority political party in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly.
