APC Will Stay In Power Beyond 2031 — Yari

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win re-election in 2027 and that the APC will retain power beyond 2031.

Yari spoke on his return to Abuja from an overseas trip, where he was welcomed by party supporters at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

He said the APC remained confident of securing another term for Tinubu, despite controversies surrounding the composition of the newly inaugurated campaign council.

“Today, we have seen him [Bola Ahmed Tinubu] as president today, and by God’s grace, he shall be the president come 2027,” Yari said.

The former Zamfara State governor also assured Nigerians that the ruling party would fulfil the promises it made during the 2023 election campaign.

“I want to assure Nigerians that whatever promise we made during the campaign, we shall keep to our promises,” he said.

Yari added that the APC’s continued support among Nigerians would depend on its ability to deliver on its commitments.

“Our party is synonymous with keeping to our words,” he stated.

He further prayed for divine wisdom for Tinubu and expressed optimism that the APC would remain in power after the President’s possible second term.

“We pray that our party will continue to be the party to lead the country after President Tinubu’s second term,” Yari said.

Yari’s comments came about 24 hours after the Presidency unveiled the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.

Tinubu was named chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, were listed among its principal officials. Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed secretary, while Yari emerged as Director-General.

The composition of the council has, however, generated controversy, with critics questioning the inclusion of some serving public officials and individuals linked to unresolved allegations.

The appointment of Nigeria Revenue Service Chairman Zacch Adedeji as Deputy Director of Fundraising has attracted particular criticism, with former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye threatening legal action over an alleged conflict of interest.

Former Humanitarian Affairs Minister Betta Edu and former NSITF board chair Ngozi Olejeme have also faced scrutiny over unresolved financial misconduct allegations.

Former presidential adviser Babafemi Ojudu has similarly questioned the composition of the council, while opposition parties have criticised the list.

Despite the backlash, Yari said the APC remained focused on mobilising support for Tinubu and securing victory in 2027.
