APGA Hijacked By Mercenaries – Bianca Ojukwu

The late Igbo leader, Chukwuemeka Ojukwu’s widow, Bianca, has claimed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has been hijacked by mercenaries, which she alleged might lead to the downfall of the party ahead of 2019 general elections.

Recall that Bianca had lost her bid to pick the senatorial ticket of the APGA for Anambra South constituency after she was defeated by business mogul, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.

Ukachukwu won the APGA primary election by polling 211 votes to defeat Bianca who scored 177 votes.

But the senatorial primary which was held at the Township Stadium in Aguata Local Government Area of the state was marred with violence as hoodlum had invaded the venue firing several bullet shots.

Bianca in her first press statement since after losing the primary election described the exercise as horrible and capable of destroying the party but reminded members of the party that quitting was not the solution to the problem.

The statement reads: “As a member of this party’s board of trustees, I am deeply concerned that mercenaries would appear to have hijacked the operations of our party machinery. APGA is today facing an existential threat and the overall image of our party is in tatters.

“This will certainly have serious repercussions going into the main elections.

“I would like to use this opportunity to reach out to all aggrieved members and aspirants who, like myself, have suffered grave injustices under a system which had an abiding responsibility to its members to create an enabling electoral environment.”
