PDP Ex-Reps member, Uzoma Suspended

Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency member, Hon. Uzoma Nkem Abonta, has been suspended by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for alleged anti-party activities.

The PDP stakeholders in Ukwa West/East of Abia State made the announcement after an emergency meeting at the party secretariat in Akwete, Ohandu, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

Abonta is accused of engaging in anti-party activities by openly supporting and working for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before, during, and after the 2023 general elections, factionalizing the party at the ward level, subjecting the party to numerous lawsuits without exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms, failing to pay party dues for several years and refusing to return a motorcycle donated to the Ward chairman by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

The party’s resolution stated:

“His suspension followed a motion moved by Chief Zacheus Okere, an Ex-Officio of the Party and a stakeholder in the Ward, seconded by Chika Okere, and adopted by no fewer than fifteen leaders and stakeholders, as well as members of the PDP Ward Executive of the Ward.”

Abonta has not yet responded to the suspension, however, the PDP in Abia State claims to be unaware of the suspension.

Speaking with Comrade Abraham Amah, the vice chairman of the Abia PDP, he stated that no official notification of the suspension of anybody in Ukwa or any other part of the state has been given to the State Working Committee.

“There has been no official notification to the PDP state working committee regarding the reported suspension of Hon. Uzoma Abonta or any other individual for that matter.

“Therefore, The PDP Abia state will not react until we are officially informed. In which case, we will call a meeting to review whatever anybody has done.

“As a result, The PDP Abia State will remain calm until we receive official word. If so, we will arrange a meeting to discuss everything that has been done. For now, the state working group is currently waiting for updates on the development.”
