Armed Robbers Injure Six In Ibadan Estate, Use POS To Transfer Victims’ Money

Residents of the Alaafia Estate at Orogun area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital are still in shock following the invasion of their abode by armed robbers who inflicted machete cut injuries on six of them.

The daredevil armed robbers numbering about 25 were said to have dispossessed residents of the estate of their money, laptop computers, other handy electronic devices and valuables.

Armed with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, the hoodlums reportedly unleashed terror on those who showed little reluctance in cooperating with them.

Not satisfied with the cash raked during the operation, the robbers were said to have brought out a POS machine with which they transferred money from the accounts of some of their victims after obtaining their PINs forcefully.

Some of the victims were said to have thought they were lucky when the money could not be transferred from their account by the POS machines due to network issues, but the robbers were said to have collected their ATM cards and went away with them.

The men of the underworld were reported to have entered into the estate through a newly dredged canal and quickly swung into action upon arrival at around 11pm on Sunday.

As they hurriedly abandoned the operation, some of their weapons were said to have been recovered by the policemen who came to the rescue of the victims.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, when contacted said the police received a distress call in the early hours of Monday from residents of the estate and they moved to the scene of the crime.

He said, “In response to a distress call received on the early hours of Monday, 31/05/2021 at about 0300hrs by residents of Alaafia Estate, Ojoo area of Ibadan, a team of operational and intelligence assets were swiftly deployed to the area.
