Armed Robbers Invade Oyo Ex-Commissioner’s Residence, Kill Wife

Suspected armed robbers on Friday invaded the home of a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Peter Odetomi, and shot dead his wife, Olayemi.

THE WHISTLER correspondent gathered that the incident happened in the early hours of Friday at the Bodija, Ashi area of Ibadan.

Residents said the hoodlums, who rode on motocycles shot many times in the air before they gained entry.

It was not clear if anything was stolen from the house but some persons claimed it was a case of assassination and not a robbery case.

Odetomi served as a commissioner under the administration of late Abiola Ajimobi. He was a former chairman, Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Mr Adewale Osifeso, said it was a robbery case.

He said, “The deceased, Olayemi Odetomi, aged 66 years, died on the spot after being shot during a robbery incident which occured during the early hours of Friday 25th June, 2021 in her home. Updates on Investigations would be provided in due course.”

There has been growing insecurity in Oyo State, especially in Ibadan in recent times. Many lives were lost during various violent activities last week.
