Army Explains Why Bandits Are On Rampage In Katsina, Borno, Others

The Nigerian Army says the recent attacks and killings of innocent citizens by bandits in Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto states is as a result of their anger, following the fire they’re currently receiving from troops in Katsina.

Recall that bandits have continued to launch attacks in Katsina and other north western states, leaving in its wake dead bodies of innocent citizens, particularly in Katsina.

The situation forced the residents of Katsina state to carry out a massive protest against insecurity few days ago.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday evening by Sagir Musa,
Acting Director, Army Public Relations, the army sympathized with fellow Nigerians and the people of Borno, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara States in particular, on these unfortunate incidents.

It added that “we would like to assure all of our unrelenting effort in engaging with communities to rid our society of any and all remnants of these criminal elements.”

The statement also disclosed that the force will, in conjunction with Nigerian Air Force, sister service and other security agencies and the affected states, make efforts to clear all known bandits hideouts in those states as more troops are being mobilized as directed by Mr President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

“We would also like to assure that these  types of heinous crimes will not go unpunished and will not be allowed anywhere in our country.”

On the ambush and killing of innocent women and children in Faduma Koloram village, Gubio LGA of Borno State by “suspected retreating Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists with a few sleeper cell”, the army said:

“Already a large contingent of military personnel have been drafted in the general area to track and apprehend or neutralize the perpetrators. We have also mandated the Theatre Command, Operation LAFIYA DOLE to enhance security,  dominate the area and reassure the affected communities of the  Nigerian Army’s commitment to protect the population.”
