Atiku Eulogises Obasanjo: ‘No Living Nigerian Has Given As Much To Nigeria In Peacetime And War’

Former Vice President and the defeated presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated his former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obsanjo, on the occasion of his 82nd birthday celebration.

Atiku, who served as Nigeria’s 11th vice-president from 1999 to 2007 under Obasanjo’s administration, described the former president as the only living Nigerian leader that has contributed the most to the country in “peacetime and in war”.

The PDP presidential candidate wished Obasanjo good health, just as he prayed to God to continue to keep the former president to enable him continue to serve the country.

“A very happy 82nd birthday to you, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. No living Nigerian has given as much to Nigeria in peacetime and in war as you have. May almighty God grant you many more years in good health and continued service to Nigeria and the world at large,” Atiku wrote in a tweet on Tuesday.

Although he lost his presidential bid in the February 23 election, Atiku enjoyed the support of Obasanjo in the run up to the presidential poll. The former president had initially vowed never to support Atiku’s presidency.

But with the intervention of some religious leaders late last year, Obasanjo made a u-turn and endorsed Atiku for president. The former president is yet to speak on Atiku’s defeat since the conduct of the election a fortnight ago.
