Bank Security Guard Blames Hardship After Breaking Into Shop To Steal Underwear, Others

A middle-aged male security guard with a commercial bank, Ishola Olayiwola, has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment after breaking into a shop to steal underwear, clothes, belts and other items.

Olayiwola was arraigned before a Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, on Thursday and sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty to the charges against him.

According to the charge sheet, Olayiwola “did unlawfully break into the shop of one Yusuff Kazeem Deji ‘m’ and stole clothes, trousers, belts, and boxers valued N448,000 property of Yusuff Kazeem Deji ‘m’ and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol.IV Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.”

Olayiwola pleaded with the court to be lenient in its judgment, saying current hardship in the country pushed him into the act as he could no longer cater for his family with his meager salary.

After pleading guilty on Thursday, he was remanded at the Ilesha Correctional Centre and judgment was fixed for today (Friday).

Delivering his judgment on Friday, the presiding judge, Justice Mashkur Salisu, considered the plea of leniency in line with the provision of Sections 416 & 460 ACJA 2015 and dependants of the convict.

Salisu, therefore, sentenced Olayiwola to 15 months imprisonment.
