Bauchi Guber: Court Stops INEC From Collating Results

A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from collating the results of the 2019 governorship election in Bauchi State.

The order followed an ex-parte application filed by the All Progressive Congress, APC, and the incumbent governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar.

Justice Inyang Ekwo in his ruling, said order is to last till the determination of the suit brought before the court by the two plaintiffs.

Recall that the election was declared inconclusive by INEC due to incidents in Tafawa Balewa local government area.

However, the electoral body later announced it would go ahead with collating and completing the results sourced from backup result sheets.

In reaction, Abubakar, who scored the second highest votes in results so far collated, ran to the court to seek a restraining order on the commission’s decision.

Recall also that the governor, after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, had said he will head to the court to challenge INEC’s stance.
