The Merseyside club made the European Cup history as the biggest away win by an English side, when they thrashed Maribor 7-0.

Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah both scored twice, with Philippe Coutinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold also on target.

Reacting to his side’s tantalizing performance, Klopp said : “Good, or even better than that, from the first second it was exactly what we wanted to do.

“Tonight we did much better and against a football-playing side like Maribor, it made a lot of sense.

“It was good all-round a really, really good performance otherwise you cannot win 7-0, so we are really happy about that.”

On setting a new club record the 50-year-old coach said: “I was told about the record after the game and I didn’t know.

“The wonderful history of this club can feel like a backpack at times so it is nice to write our own good piece of the history.

“It will be difficult to beat that record. It is quite rare to win 7-0 but it showed we did unbelievably well.”

The two teams meet again in two weeks, and the Reds will be confident of another easy win at Anfield.
