Biden Orders ‘Pause’ On Deportation Of Illegal Immigrants

After his swearing-in on Wednesday, the United States President Joe Biden, stopped the deportation of illegal immigrants for the first 100 days pending review of existing immigration policies.

The U.S. Acting Secretary, Department Homeland Security, David Pekoske, signed the memorandum, adding that it covered “certain noncitizens ordered deported.”

Pekoske said that the current administration needed to come up with an effective immigration policies that will ultimately benefit the country.

“The pause will allow DHS to ensure that its resources are dedicated to responding to the most pressing challenges that the United States faces, including immediate operational challenges at the southwest border in the midst of the most serious global public health crisis in a century,” the DHS stated as quoted by Fox News.

The development seemed to be in line with Biden’s campaign promises.

Recall that his incoming Chief of Staff, Ron Klain, had said in a memo on Saturday, that Biden would revoke not just the immigration ban by former president Donald Trump, but would rejoin the Paris Climate Accord, among others.

On its part, the Trump’s White House believed that banning illegal aliens was a major achievement for the country, saying it shielded the nation from foreign attack.
