The development was announced on Sunday and was confirmed by a Downing Street spokesperson.

According to the spokesperson, the action was a “precautionary step” after Johnson had shown persistent symptoms of the pandemic.

The spokesperson said, “The Prime Minister thanks NHS staff for all of their incredible hard work and urges the public to continue to follow the Government’s advice to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.”

The news of the PM’s hospital admission followed a speech by Queen Elizabeth, where she encouraged citizens to be strong and resilient during the hard times.

“I am speaking to you at what I know is an increasingly challenging time,” Elizabeth said in a taped broadcast from Windsor Castle.

“A time of disruption in the life of our country: a disruption that has brought grief to some, financial difficulties to many, and enormous changes to the daily lives of us all,” she added.

Meanwhile the virus had infected over 40,000 in the UK while the country had been on lock down since March 20.
