BREAKING: Boko Haram Strikes Again Hours After Buhari’s Maiduguri Visit

Barely hours after President Muhammadu Buhari departed Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Boko Haram insurgents are said to have attacked Jiddari-Polo, a town near the capital.

President Buhari had visited Maiduguri following Monday’s attack on Auno, a town near the state capital, where the insurgents killed no fewer than 20 travelers.

Daily Trust is reporting that residents of Jiddari-Polo scampered for safety as Nigerian troops engaged the insurgents in a gun duel.

Meanwhile, during the visit, President Buhari paid a condolence visit to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar El-Kanemi, where he sought the cooperation of residents in his administration’s counter insurgency efforts.

“I urge the people of the state to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies; let us deny Boko Haram access to our loyal citizens and encourage displaced people to go back to their land,” the president had said.
