BREAKING: ‘Nine’ Remaining Abducted FUG Students Regain Freedom

At least nine of the remaining abducted students of the Federal University, Gusau in Zamfara State have reportedly regained freedom.

Multiple sources from the institution confirmed the development to THE WHISTLER on Sunday.

No fewer than 21 students, mostly females, were abducted from their hostels after armed men invaded an off-campus residence in Sabon Gida Village of the state, on September 23, 2023.

Three labourers, all males, registered with GUPRAN Engineering Services Ltd, were also abducted along with the students.

However, the troops of the Nigerian Army rescued 13 of the victims and the labourers less than 72 hours after the abduction.

Speaking to THE WHISTLER, a top leader of the school’s Student Union of Government (SUG) who craved anonymity said, “I heard only nine were rescued, but the school has yet to officially disclose anything.”

Our correspondent gathered that the rescued students have reportedly arrived in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where they are receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu is said to have been directly involved in the negotiation process that resulted in the release.

There is, however, no official statement from the Institution, Zamfara State Government or Nigerian Army as of press time.
