British Airways Suspends Flights To China Over Coronavirus As Countries Begin Evacuation Of Citizens

The United Kingdom flag carrier, British Airways, has suspended flights to and from mainland China as tension escalates due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The UK’s flag carrier issued a statement on Wednesday.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience, but the safety of our customers and crew is always our priority.

“Customers due to travel to or from China in the coming days can find more information on BA.com.”

Meanwhile, the governments of Japan, Australia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Thailand, Philippines, United States, France, Germany, Morocco and Spain have begun the evacuation of its citizens from Wuhan.

The US Department of State said a chartered flight will be in Wuhan on Wednesday with 240 American citizens on board, including consular staff.

The Independent UK reports that BA’s website shows no direct flights to mainland China available in January or February, but as aforetime, it usually operates daily flights from Heathrow Airport to Shanghai and Beijing.

Furthermore, two daily flights from Hong Kong will continue because it is not among UK’s travel warning.

THE WHISTLER had reported that the governments of Russia and Hongkong have placed travel restrictions to and from China, following the outbreak of the virus.

As at present, the number Chinese infected currently are over 1000 while the death toll is over 106.
