President Muhammadu Buhari may have set a New Year resolution to do more of action than talking in 2017 as he proceeds to sack the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal as Chairman of the presidential committee on the reconstitution of federal government boards of parastatals, agencies and commissions.

THE WHISTLER recalls the alleged plans by President Buhari to remove Babachir as the SGF, following the call for the latter’s resignation and prosecution by the Nigerian Senate. The upper legislative house had investigated and accused the SGF of swindling the Federal Government out of N200 million in a grass clearing contract at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Yobe State.

Babachir’s removal as head of the presidential committee may be in furtherance of the President’s efforts to sack him as the Secretary to the Federal Government.

President Buhari, in his New Year message to Nigerians, had said that his “government was aware of some mistakes and wrongdoings in handling the affairs of IDPs. We are taking measures to correct those mistakes and punish the culprits”.

Citing presidential sources, Daily Trust gathered that President Buhari replaced Babachir with Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo as Chairman of the boards.

“The SGF is no longer in charge of that responsibility, for obvious reasons,” the source said.
