Buhari Didn’t Sack Peterside As NIMASA DG, Presidency Reacts To Reports

The presidency has refuted media reports on the alleged sacking of Dakuku Peterside as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The reports had claimed that President Buhari removed Peterside and appointed the Executive Director of Finance and Administration at NIMASA, Bashir Yusuf Jamoh, as the agency’s new DG.

But the president’s personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad, in a tweet on Thursday, said: “President Muhammadu Buhari didn’t remove or sack Dakuku Peterside, he was appointed NIMASA DG on March 10, 2016 and his tenure ends on March 10, 2020.”

Dr. Bashir Yusuf Jamoh

Ahmad, however, did not deny that President Buhari had approved the appointment of Jamoh to replace Peterside as the new NIMASA DG.

Jamoh’s profile on the website of the NIMASA shows that he has over 25 years of public service experience, serving in the Kaduna State Government before joining the National Maritime Authority (NMA) in 1994.
