Nigerian media mogul and politician, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has described the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as a throwback to the dark era of 1983 when Buhari ruled Nigeria as a military president.

Dokpesi who is one of the candidates aspiring to take over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship, spoke to journalists in Osun State about how he intends to rebrand the party.

In a statement issued by spokesperson of his campaign organization, Omor Bazuaye, Dokpesi also addressed reports about crisis within the PDP.

He alleged that some “disgruntled people” are trying to use institutions such as the courts or the media to paint the party black.

In the statement, Dokpesi said he “currently carries the burden of alleged corruption levelled against him by a government he has consistently criticised for inept leadership”.

When asked about how he intends to manage his court case and still go ahead to rebrand the PDP, Dokpesi reminded journalists about how Buhari “came in as head of state and arrested every politician”, adding that what is happening now is similar to the persecutions, harassment and intimidation of politicians by president Buhari in 1983.

“You talk of court case hanging on my neck, court case, court case, where is my neck”, he asked.

“In 1983, we saw it very clearly. The same thing happened.

“General Buhari came in as head of state and arrested every politician, locked them up, sentenced them, 200 years, 100 years, tried or untried.

“Madam, What’s my offence, what did they say was my offence?” he asked again.

“So if you go to a hotel with your friend and you go to the reception to say I want a room and then you’re given a room and you pay your room rate and then they come back and arrest the hotelier, they say the money you collected for this thing oh it is illegal money. Oh illegal money coming from CBN,” Dokpesi added.
