Cash Transfer: Buhari Appoints Osinbajo To Oversee Implementation Of Palliatives

President Muhammadu Buhari has constituted the Economic Sustainability Committee whose responsibility is to implement the federal government’s Coronavirus palliative measures for “vulnerable Nigerians”, among others.

President Buhari, in his nationwide broadcast on Sunday, had revealed that he had approved the disbursement of cash to the most vulnerable citizens to help alleviate their sufferings amid the restrictive measures put in place by the federal and state governments to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

“For the most vulnerable in our society, I have directed that the conditional cash transfers for the next two months be paid immediately. Our Internally displaced persons will also receive two months of food rations in the coming weeks,” said the president.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo revealed on Monday that President Buhari had appointed him to chair the committee overseeing the implementation of the various palliatives put in place by the federal government.

“The President today constituted an Economic Sustainability Committee he asked me to chair, on how to implement strategies to alleviate sufferings of Nigerians at this time,” Osinbajo said at a Google Hangout where discussions on the impact of COVID19 in the country was held.

The vice president said, “the Committee is to take care of the economic challenges & fallouts of the pandemic & the restrictions. Besdies developing further palliatives, Committee will also develop a Sustainability Plan repositioning the economy & growing the non-oil sector.

“Members are Ministers of Finance, Budget & Planning; Industry, Trade & Investment; Labour; Petroleum Resources-State; CBN Gov, GMD NNPC, with the Office of the Secretary to the Govt of the Federation as Secretary. The Google Hangout was organized by HACK COVID19 Call Center in Abuja, earlier today

“The HACK COVID19 is a private sector initiative to share solutions, public information and ideas on COVID19 and how public and private sector can collaborate on the response to the pandemic. The Google Hangout was moderated by Ore Disu & other tech innovators participated online,” Osinbajo said.
