Catholic Priests Protest Killing Of Reverend Father

Priests in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu state, on Friday, protested the killing of a reverend father by suspected herdsmen and similar attacks in the past.

The priests who came out in hundreds, carried placard with inscriptions such as “Life Is Sacred,” “Stop The Kidnappings” etc.

They marched to the state government house and the state police command headquarters where they dropped letters stating their grievances.

Recall that yesterday night, a parish priest of St. James the Great parish, Ugbawka, Paul Offu was shot dead by unknown men. 

Speaking with newsmen, Communications Director of the Diocese, Benjamin Achi said, “The rate of insecurity has gone out of hand and the government should rise to the occasion.

He said, “The fulani herdsmen have been killing people repeatedly.  The incident yesterday makes it third priest attacked in recent months.

“It is not just about the priests, it is about the people as well. Most people cannot even go to their farms.

“The priests are so angry; we dropped our message with the governor and left.”
