China Faults US/Taiwan Relations

China Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Hua Chunying

The Chinese Government has asked the United States to tread carefully with Taiwan, which according to it, is part of Beijing’s territory.

China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Hua Chunying, at a press briefing on Tuesday, stressed that the US should not boycott Beijing in its bilateral relations with Taiwan.

“There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.

“The one-China principle is the political foundation and fundamental premise for the establishment and development of diplomatic relations between China and the US.

“The US should abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, rather than the so-called Taiwan Relations Act or the Six Assurances, and refrain from moving further down the wrong and dangerous path,” she said.

The statement may not be unconnected to a declaration by Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-Wen, to open up more economic relations with its strategic ally, the US.

Tsai had also maintained that as a sovereign nation, Taiwan is not part of Beijing’s jurisdiction.

“#Taiwan-#US relations are getting stronger by the day.

” I’m glad that we’ll soon be initiating the US-Taiwan Economic and Commercial Dialogue, another step in the right direction.

“This, along with the Six Assurances, can be the foundation of our continued cooperation,” she tweeted on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of States, Mike Pompeo, lauded Taiwan’s initiative to boost cooperation with the US.

“The U.S. welcomes President Tsai Ing-Wen’s August 28 statement that Taiwan will move quickly to lift restrictions on imports of U.S. pork and beef.

“This move opens the door for even deeper economic and trade cooperation,” he stated.

China and US have been at loggerheads over numerous international issues, ranging from Covid-19 to Hong Kong, to the Iran Nuclear Treaty.
