Clergy Urges Christians To Reject The Name Xmas, Calls On Nigerians To be Patriotic

The minister in charge of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Gwarimpa Parish, Rev. Ujah Obasi, has urged Christians to abstain from calling Christmas ‘Xmas’ and urged Nigerians to be patriotic this season.

Obasi made the call on Sunday in a sermon titled ‘The Overcomers ‘.

The clergy said ‘Xmas’ was coined by those who do not understand the religious significance of Christmas, adding that they see it as an annual ceremony that people celebrate to lavish and display wealth.

“There is something that annoys me and I see it in the Church, you see a Christian writing ‘happy xmas’.

“You don’t write that, it is from the pit of hell; because they don’t want Christ mentioned.”

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter to some Christians, they take everything for granted.”

He also stressed on the need to establish a good relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Kalu enjoined Christians and well meaning Nigerians to desist from desecrating their body for money and getting involved in dubious and unpatriotic acts, saying it is devilish.

“The temptation to waste resources this season is the work of the flesh.

“Sisters waste as much as N50,000 on hair, they sell their body and even soul because of Christmas which is set to end in few days. The main thing is your relationship with Jesus.”

According to him, overcomers are those who will not sell their conscience for vanity as they are those who conquered the world, flesh and the devil.
