Coronavirus: UK To Evacuate Citizens From Nigeria
The United Kingdom Embassy in Nigeria has alerted its citizens within the country, that it has agreed with the Nigerian government to evacuate them back to Britain.
The embassy noted that though all airports in Nigeria were closed to all international commercial flights until 23 April, it had secured permission from authorities to evacuate its citizens to the UK from Abuja and Lagos airports.

The embassy disclosed this in a tweet on Tuesday.
The embassy also said that the first category of evacuees would be the vulnerable ones and that chartered flights were being arranged for them.
“Eligible people who have registered are being contacted by email, in order of vulnerability,” the embassy tweeted.
It also said that other citizens would be able to book for flights soon.

“We will then open booking wider and publish confirmed flight details on our social media channels and our Nigeria travel advice pages soon,” it tweeted.
Furthermore, the UK government said that those who wished to remain in the country should comply with public health advisory on Covid-19.
“Find accommodation that’s suitable for your needs; keep in regular contact with family and friends at home, so they know you are safe and well.
“The Nigerian authorities have told us that people who exceed their authorised visa stays as a result of travel restrictions linked to COVID-19 will not be penalised as over-stayers when they depart,” UK government stated.

The embassy added that the first flights would depart on 18 and 20 of April.
“Passengers will not be able to choose the date of their flight, they will be allocated seats on the first available flight.
“You should have your bags packed and be prepared to depart Nigeria by 18 April; you will be told your flight date and time when your booking is confirmed,” it stated.
The UK embassy also said the price of a ticket is £ 477.50 from Abuja and £490.50 from Lagos.
