Council Of State: Jonathan Attends As OBJ, IBB, Others Shun Meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over the second National Council of State meeting at the presidential villa.

This is the second time the president will preside over the meeting, usually attended by the vice president (deputy chairman); all former presidents and all former heads of the government of the federation; all former Chief Justices of Nigeria; President of the Senate; Speaker of the House of Representatives; state governors and Attorney-General of the Federation.

Present at the meeting are ex-Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar and former interim President of Nigeria, Chief Ernest Shonekan.

The meeting makes it the first Council of State meeting Jonathan would be attending since exiting office in 2015.

Conspicuously missing at the meeting were Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

Other members of the council also missing are General Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, General Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida among others.
