Court Finds South African Policeman Guilty Of Killing Nigerian

A South African police constable, Austin Luciano Reynold, has been found guilty of killing a Nigerian, Ebuka Okoli.

Okoli was said to have been shot in Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal, in 2018, when the police officer raided his area unauthorized.

He was said to have been handcuffed, robbed by the police officer who was off duty at the time of the raid.

At the trial on Friday, the presiding judge, Shyam Gyanda, found the officer guilty of murder and three other charges bordering on robbery.

Ronald’s conviction was made possible when another person who was involved in the crime stood as a state witness.

Recall that eight South African police officers, who allegedly tormented and killed a Nigerian, Ibrahim Olamilekun Badmus, are also on trial at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria South Africa, in November 22.

In her remarks, chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said she expects that justice would be served.

She also urged Africans to show brotherly love to one another as they work towards building continent bound by love and progress.

Many Nigerian migrants were repatriated from South Africa following a wave of xenophobic violence in the country.
