COVID-19: Akeredolu Orders Aides To Do Test, PDP Asks NCDC To Trace All Contacts

Ondo State governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has directed all members of his cabinet to go for compulsory COVID-19 test.

The directive came on Tuesday few hours after the governor announced that he tested positive for the virus.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr Donald Photo, who announced the governor’s directives to his aides, explained that all commissioners, special advisers and special assistants to the governor had been mandated to go for Coronavirus test.

Ojogo announced that Akeredolu had gone ahead to self-isolate as a result of his coronavirus status but said the governor was doing fine.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party in the state has prayed for quick recovery of the governor.

The party, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Zadok Akintoye, also asked the National Centre for Disease Control to ensure that all those exposed to the governor were urgently tested.

The opposition party also said members of the state House of Assembly who joined Akeredolu when he travelled to Abuja to submit his governorship nomination form might have contracted the virus.

The PDP statement read, “It is quite unfortunate that the actions of Mr Governor during his trip to Abuja to submit his nomination form may have also exposed members of the House of Assembly who joined him on that trip.

“A viral video clearly showing the governor sneezing into his hands in the midst of the honourable members of the House of Assembly, was shared online making it imperative that the National Centre for Disease Control takes immediately action in testing and isolating anyone who may have been exposed to the governor within the last few days.

“Our prayers and best wishes go to the governor at this time and we hope that the lessons learnt would help in ensuring greater compliance with laid down rules for mitigating the spread of the virus.”
