COVID-19: Nigeria Creeping To Second Wave As Country Records 474 New Cases

On Wednesday Nigeria recorded 474 new cases of COVID-19 in 16 states, taking the total figure to 70,669, a warning that the country may be moving in the direction of a second wave of the pandemic.

With 180 new cases also recorded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and a huge climb in other states, the curve appears to be going up again.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), two persons died from the infection on Wednesday, and a total of 1,184 lives lost in 10 months.

Also, 132 persons were discharged on Wednesday, and a total of 65,242 have recovered so far.

Although the recent record is a 14% decrease to Tuesday’s figure of 550 cases, adherence to COVID-19 guidelines have reportedly been poor across the country.

The NCDC has, however, advised that the use of nose masks, hand sanitizers and observation of social distancing in market places, religious gatherings should not be neglected.
