COVID-19 Patients To Start Receiving Treatment At Home – Oyo Governor

The Oyo State Government has announced plans to start allowing Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients to receive treatment at home.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who disclosed this on Monday, said the move was aimed at reducing pressure on isolation centres in the state.

“On the management of COVID-19 cases, we will continue to allow all confirmed COVID-19 cases who are able to self-isolate at home to do so, in order not to overwhelm the capacity of our isolation centres.

“This also ensures that the isolation centres are available for those who need hospitalisation. However, we will keep tracking those self-isolating using technology to prevent community spread,” said the governor.

Governor Makinde stated this while delivering a press briefing on the new treatment protocol for COVID-19 cases in the state.

He said a professor of Biochemistry, Olatunde Farombi, who is member of the state’s COVID-19 task force, had advised the task force on foods and natural products that would help residents avoid contracting COVID-19 and other viral illnesses. He said an advisory would be issued to residents to that effect.

“For instance, we have bitter kola, turmeric, zinc, ginger, garlic, citrus fruits and bitter leaf. Let me emphasise that this advisory is not for the treatment or cure of COVID-19, it is preventive,” said Makinde.

According to figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Oyo has so far recorded a total of 188 cases of COVID-19, as of Sunday, May 17.
