Defence Intelligence Invites Naval Commodore Olawunmi After Alleging Buhari Govt’s Involvement With Terrorism

Days after the retired Navy Commodore, Kunle Olawunmi, revealed that people in President Muhammadu Buhari’s government are sponsoring insurgency to Islamize Nigeria, the Defence Intelligence Agency has reportedly invited him to shed more light.

Olawunmi was featured on Channels Television ‘Daily Sunrise’ earlier this week, where he disclosed among other information that the Boko Haram terrorism may never end because some of its sponsors were currently at the corridors of power.

The intelligence expert said he got the intelligence from terrorists who were interrogated after their capture in 2016.

Consequently, the Agency said it invited Olawunmi over the interview to give further information that could help the counter-terrorism efforts.

The Agency debunked earlier reports claiming the Commodore was declared wanted, saying it only made a phone call to him inviting him to the Agency’s office.

PR Nigeria quoted the Director Defence Information (DDI), Maj Gen Benjamin Sawyerr as saying that the invite was informal and harmless and one focussed towards aiding the agency fight insurgency and terrorism.

“There was no letter or any formal invitation. It was an informal phone call. He just switched off his phone and started calling some media houses that he had been declared wanted,” Sawyerr said.
