Ekweremadu Weighs Options, Still In Talks With APC

Despite his reported denial of plans to defect to the ruling All Progressive Congress, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekwerenmadu is still in talks with the leadership of the party, THE WHISTLER can authoritatively reveal.

There were reports that Ekweremadu was considering a defection to the APC after an alleged snub of the senator following the nomination of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi as the running mate to the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Supporters of the deputy senate president were quoted as saying the senator was not consulted before the announcement of Obi as the PDP presidential running mate. The act was considered a snub of Ekweremadu who the highest political office holder from the South East is.

But sources close to the senator informed THE WHISTLER that Ekweremadu is still talking with the APC on what the terms of a possible defection would be.

“He is still negotiating the terms with the APC, whether to support Buhari in the presidential election and still fly the PDP flag or stay neutral. He is weighing all the options in the best interest of his constituency,” the source revealed.

Ekweremadu had dismissed reports that he planned to defect to the APC shortly after Obi emerged running mate to Abubakar. The rumour became stronger when his name was again missing on the PDP presidential Campaign Council which announced the Senate President, Bukola Saraki as the Director General of the council.
