The Nigeria power industry has achieved another improved all-time national peak of 5,420.30MW.
In a statement on Thursday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria
said the new record was achieved on August 19 at a frequency of 50.10HZ.
This is the highest ever recorded in the national power sector representing an increase of 42.50 MW when compared to the previous 5,375.80 MW recorded on the national grid on August 1 this year.
TCN in the statement attributed the steady improvement in electricity output to the current reform being implemented in the power sector under the administration of President Muhammad Buhari.
The transmission wheeling capacity in the country is put at 8,100MW.
However, due to constraints, the TCN cannot wheel more than 6,000MW.
This is because an overload might lead to system collapse since the Power Distribution Companies also do not have the capacity to take more than 5,000MW.
But with the deal between the Federal Government and Siemens AG which will enable the firm install a total of 3,800 power distribution transformers across the country, hopes are high that the power challenges in the country will soon be addressed.
