The immediate past-governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has called on private organisations to support the government to empower the vulnerable people in the society.

The foundation, according to the managing director of the newspaper, Julius Akpovire Enyeh, is a corporate social responsibility initiative of the organisation aimed at complementing the efforts of other corporate organisations and NGOs.

He said, “The sole aim of this foundation is giving back to our society by finding ways to ameliorate the suffering of widows, vulnerable children, and our neglected aged fathers and mothers.’

Enyen stated that the foundation, in its first year of operation, would support 100,000 widows, vulnerable children, and the aged, stressing that the focus would be on education, empowerment and healthcare.

The Initiative had the support of many officials from both the private and public sector including Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and the managing director of Ecobank Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Akinwuntan.

The former governor however applauded the management of the newspaper for the initiative, saying, every government must take human capital development seriously.

“Look at the suffering of the aged in the society, sometimes you ask, what about their children? Or was it that they didn’t pay attention to their children when they were young? Even though some of them did, we also have irresponsible children becoming irresponsible adults. We must discourage people from abandoning their parents.”
