Faruk Yahaya Takes Over As New Army Chief

Major General Faruk Yahaya has assumed office as the 22nd Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on Friday in Abuja.

He took over office at an event that held at the army headquarters.

President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed the new COAS on Thursday to lead the army following the death of Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a plane crash at the Kaduna airport on May 21.

Addressing the principal staff officers, Yahaya requested maximum cooperation of the senior officers to achieve the mandate of safeguarding the country from the multifaceted security challenges facing it.

The COAS stressed teamwork and synergy as the way forward for the army and the nation, saying no single individual or agency could do it alone.

The Sokoto-born General had earlier paid his last respect to his late predecessor, Attahiru, when he signed the condolence register at Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.
