Fayose Writes EFCC…Says Now Ready To Face N1.3bn Fraud Case

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has written the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu, informing him of his readiness to make himself available for probe by the anti-graft agency.

Fayose said his decision to submit himself for investigation by the EFCC stemmed from the “several and serial actions” of the anti-corruption agency which include the “freezing of my accounts and attempts to secure temporary forfeiture of my properties.”

The governor, whose tenure in office expires on October 15, 2018, said the anti-graft agency’s moves against him “are indicative of the Commission’s desire to have me clarify some issues or answer some questions but for the immunity I enjoy under Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution as the Governor of Ekiti State”

Fayose said it was pertinent to submit himself to the anti-corruption agency since his “term of office pursuant to which I enjoy immunity against investigation and prosecution under the above provision shall lapse” on the aforementioned.

The letter which was personally signed by Fayose was dated September 10, 2018, and has been stamped by the EFCC.

THE WHISTLER recalls that after Governor Fayose’s deputy and anointed candidate lost at the Ekiti State governorship election to candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the anti-graft agency had in a now deleted tweet said: “The parri (party) is over, the cloak of immunity torn apart, and the staff broken.
