FCTA Warns Private Schools Not To Reopen Till Further Notice

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reacted to an online information indicating that some private schools were planning to resume for the 2019/2020 third term session.

FCTA maintained that the closure of schools, which was part of the presidential directive against the spread of Coronavirus, was still in force and as such, the reopening of schools was until further notice.

Umaru Marafa, Acting Secretary for Education, FCTA, issued the statement on Tuesday, stressing that “no academic activities in all Schools in any form shall commence until a notice to reopen is approved and conveyed by the Secretariat.”

“Violators of this directive will face the full wrath of the law,” the statement added.

FCTA said that the fact that pupils have missed some part of the second term would be factored into the academic calendar, which would now fit into the third term calender.

“Any action taken otherwise is likely to negatively distort the academic calendar of the schools involved.”

The FCTA Education Secretariat also stated that it had worked out a plan to help pupils continue their learning through lessons on radio and television broadcast.
