FG Releases N984 million For COVID19 Response In 9 Days


The Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire, has said the federal government had so far released a total of N984 million since the first case of Coronavirus in the country.

The minister stated this while providing updates on COVID19 during in interview on NTA, on Saturday.

According to him the funds released was inclusive of the N620million released by the ministry of finance on Friday.

The federal government had earlier released the sum of N364 million for the same purpose a few weeks ago bringing the total sum of money released to fight Coronavirus to N984 million.


Meanwhile the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) says a total of N1.671bn was budgeted for coronavirus response within the first 28 days of the outbreak, but not all the money has been received.

Nigeria recorded its first case of Coronavirus on Friday, February 27, 2020.

An Italian businessman had come into the country with the virus on February 24. It was, however, not detected at the airport as the virus was said to be at the incubation stage.

Since the news broke, some Nigerians who have had contacts with the Italian had been quarantined.

As of March 924 suspected cases of COVID19 across the country had been screened. But only 1 case tested positive.

On the condition of the Italian,Ehanire said his condition was being monitored and would be released once his viral load comes to zero.

However he noted that he is recovering very well and showing very little and mild symptoms.
