FG Restates Commitment To Development Of Oil And Gas Sector

The Federal Government has restated its commitment to the development of the oil and gas sector in order to attract the much needed investments.

President Muhammadu Buhari said this speaking at the 6th Triennial National Delegates Conference of
the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria.

The President commended the Association for its support in the development of the oil and gas sector of the economy.

He noted that the oil and gas industry is an enabler of national development, adding that the sector is critical to the nine strategic priorities of the government.

Some of these priorities, according to the President, include stimulating growth, creating well-paying jobs and taking millions of Nigerians out of poverty.

The President who was represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva, explained that the ministry is paying special attention to gas by declaring the year 2020 as the year of gas.

He said that based on global ranking, Nigeria currently occupies 10th and 9th positions in the global oil and gas reserves respectively.

He reiterated that fixing the nations refineries still remains a top priority for his administration.

He also commended the private sector for supporting government’s effort by investing in major refineries.
