FG Slashes Price of NPK Fertilizer By 9.1%

The Federal Government has slashed the price of NPK fertilizer by 9.1% as part of efforts to support farmers who are already suffering from the impact of the coronavirus.

The governor of Jigawa State, Muhamad Badaru, disclosed this on Wednesday in Dutse, saying that the price had been cut from N5,500 to N5,000 per 50kg bag.

Badaru, who is the Chairman, Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI), said the reduction by 10% was a palliative measure by government to mitigate the effect of the COVID-19.

According to him, “As part of measures introduced by Mr President to provide relief to Nigerian farmers on account of COVID-19 pandemic, the price of NPK 20.10.10 fertilizer is now N5,000 from N5,500 per 50 kg bag.”

Badaru said that the NPK fertilizer would be available in sufficient quantity due to the coming farming season.

“Based on the forgoing, we reassure farmers that all necessary preparations for the successful implementation of Mr President’s PFI are very much underway.

“Sufficient volume of the fertilizer will be made available in time to meet the needs of Nigerian farmers for the wet season farming, despite the COVID-19 pandemic which we are hopeful will come to an end soon,” Badaru said.

The governor further said that plans had been concluded for production of Compound Blends of NPK 20. 10.10 fertilizer, adding that it would be suitable for the North-East.
