FG To Deliver A Model International Airport For Enugu

The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered a complete overhaul of facilities at the Enugu Airport, in order to turn it into a model international facility.

The Personal Assistant to the President, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed this on Friday via a tweet at @BashirAhmaad which reads : “The Federal Gov’t approves the complete overhaul of existing facilities at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.”

THE WHISTLER reports that the presidency had approved the sum of 10 billion naira as intervention fund for the upgrade of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu following pressure from South East leaders, including governors.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Siraka, while speaking with newsmen at the facility on Thursday, promised that the contractor will carry out a thorough job and that government is committed to ensuring that the airport is completely transformed in good time.

“The contractor has been mobilised to site and we are here to see the progress of work so far done. My coming is also a fulfilment of my promise to relocate to the state until the work is delivered.

“I want to assure you that this procurement of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport’s reconstruction, rehabilitation of the runway and other associated works will be delivered prudently in the interest of all,” he added.

He said that at the completion of work, the airport will be of international standard.

“When completed, the airport is going to be one of the best and most modern airports in Nigeria,” he said.
