FG Urges World Bank To Help Sponsor 5 Million Out-Of-School Children

The federal government has asked the World Bank to help in sponsoring the education of about 5 million out-of-school children.

This was made known in a statement on Wednesday, signed by Ben Bem Goong, Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education.

“Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, has called on the World Bank to assist Nigeria in reducing the number of Out-of-School children from 10 million to 5 million by the year 2023.

“This is in line with the current administration’s goal of ensuring that Nigerian children have access to qualitative education, irrespective of their economic background,” the statement partly read.

According to the statement, Adamu who received a delegation of the World Bank at his office in Abuja, said that government was not happy that many children have not been able to access education.

Adamu further said that the “Ministry was currently working with the World Bank on projects aimed at encouraging children back to school, particularly in the area of increased enrollment of the Girl-child.”

Meanwhile, the Minister lauded the management of the World Bank for supportting the country, especially in education, over the years.

On his part, World Bank Director, Shubham Chawdry, assured government that it would keep assisting the country, the best way it can.

“Education is a sure way of eliminating poverty,” he stressed, according to the statement.
