‘Fighting Must Stop Immediately,’ UN Secretary Urges Palestine, Israel

He strongly recommended a two state solution with Jerusalem as capital of both countries.

“The current violence in Gaza & Israel only perpetuates the cycles of death, destruction & despair, and pushes farther to the horizon any hopes of coexistence & peace.

“Fighting must stop immediately. The @UN is actively engaging all sides towards an immediate ceasefire,” he stated.

Furthermore, the UN Security Council held an open debate on the matter on Sunday.

The virtual meeting was chaired by China, and monitored by our correspondent.

On its part, Palestine’s representative urged the international community to stop Israel’s domination, adding that it would never leave Jerusalem.

But Israel’s diplomat said to the members that Israel was defending itself from provocative attacks by Hamas in Palestine.

However, China urged both countries to stop the escalation and make peace.

Meanwhile, the permanent representative of the United States to the UN, Linda Thomas Green-Field said the US was concerned and was working tirelessly to bring an end to the crisis.
