FINAL VERDICT: Supreme Court Nails APC, Finally Dashes Party’s Hopes In Rivers

All hopes of contesting in the forthcoming general elections in Rivers State is now lost for the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a Supreme Court ruling on the appeal recently filed by the party.

The APC had appealed a verdict where the Supreme Court affirmed a judgment of the Federal High Court which barred candidates of the ruling party from participating in the upcoming governorship, national and state assembly elections in the state.

The appeal came after the Supreme Court nullified the judgement delivered by the Court of Appeal allowing the APC field candidates in the general elections in Rivers.

But in a final ruling on the matter on Monday, the Supreme Court again dismissed the appeal filed by ruling party, dashing all hopes on if the APC can field candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

In the judgement delivered by Justice Aliyu Sanusi, the court held that “the appeal is struck out,” adding that reasons for dismissing the appeal would be announced later.
