Five Burnt To Death As Petrol Tanker Explodes In Ogun

Five persons were burnt to death while two others sustained injuries as a petrol tanker burst into flames in an accident along Owode-Idiroko Road in Ogun State.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday at Ajilete section of the road.

A bus and a motorcycle were also said to have been burnt completely in the explosion.

The explosion reportedly happened when the fuel-laden tanker was descending the sloppy part of the road.

The 33,000 litres capacity tank attached to the trailer was said to have fell and exploded.

The Federal Road Safety Corps Commander, Idiroko Unit, Akinwunmi Olaluwoye, confirmed the incident.

Olaluwoye explained that five victims were burnt to death while two sustained injuries

The unit commander disclosed that corpses of the victims have been taken over by the family members.

He said, “No vehicle rammed into the tanker. The tank dropped off from the back of the tanker and exploded. The number of persons involved are seven, five dead, two injured.

“The driver had taken away the head of the truck as at the time we got there. We have allowed the police to take charge and handle that aspect.”
